En Root is a collective of ALAANA (African/Black, Latinx, Asian/South Asian, Arab/Middle Eastern, and Native American) classical musicians that work to transform American classical music into a culturally diverse and vibrant community. En Root’s programs inspire both youth and cultural institutions to celebrate the multiplicity of voices in America through its educational programming, collaborations, and dynamic performances.

En Root was founded by a group of emerging artists brought together through the Sphinx Organization, a Detroit based nonprofit organization aimed to increase diversity in the arts. Fueled by the lack of diversity in traditional American classical music settings, En Root was created to celebrate and promote music from the member’s multiple heritages, as well as the works of other underrepresented communities in classical music.
